Fitra is an obligatory charity given by every family at the end of Ramadan and before the Eid ul Fitr prayer. The head of the family gives on behalf of every family member. Translated as 'instinct' fitra highlights the natural instinct to give to those in need. The estimated cost is $10 per person in each household.
It is a donation paid by those who cannot fulfill the obligation of fasting due to illness or another valid reason. This payment goes towards feeding a person in need for each of the fasting days that were missed. The estimated cost, on guidance from the Fiqh Council of North America, is $10 for each day missed or $300 for all of Ramadan.
This allows those who deliberately miss or break a fast-during Ramadan without a valid reason a chance to recompense it. Missing a fast in Ramadan requires them to either fast for 60 consecutive days or feed 60 needy people per day.The estimated cost is $10 per person which would be $600 a day for each missed or broken-fast day in Ramadan.
