In July 2011 East Africa was hit with the worst drought in 6 decades. Millions of people were displaced in Somalia, Ethiopia and other countries. Thousands of men, women and children lost their lives due to severe food shortages leading to starvation. It has now been 12 years. East Africa has been in a state of recovery since then.
1.3 billion dollars were put towards relief efforts by multiple humanitarian organizations, including HHRD. Helping Hand for Relief and Development is a registered NGO (INGO) with offices and team members in Kenya, Somalia, Uganda and Tanzania. HHRD has established multiple programs to combat malnutrition, water sanitation and provisions, and hygiene services amongst others. Our work continues to support devastated communities.
As a registered INGO, HHRD conducts several developmental programs and projects in Kenya, Somalia, Uganda and Tanzania such as the ‘School of Excellence’ in Somalia, Healthcare and Nutrition, Water for Life (water accessibility), WASH (Water and Sanitation Hygiene), Orphan Support, Children with Disabilities, Skills Development and Livelihood, Youth Empowerment and seasonal programs.
