On July 18, 2022, another 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the eastern mountainous area of Afghanistan, less than one month after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake claimed over 1,000 lives and damaged 10,000+ homes in the same area. More than 362,000 people have been impacted since June 22, 2022 by what is now considered to be the deadliest quake to hit the region in over two decades. A total of 60% of the population relies on international assistance.
Recent natural disasters have damaged thousands of homes, displacing hundreds of families and leaving them in need of food, clean water, shelter, and medical care. HHRD Afghanistan continues to provide assistance to vulnerable populations through trauma and wound care, household essentials, and food packages consisting of cooked meals and dry food rations.
